Synopsis: Step into the chaos that is the life of a young mother of two small children. This is not the life NADIA dreamed of as a talented graduate just a few years ago. Having forgotten who she is, she feels like she is drowning in depression and dirty diapers. Her frustration is accentuated by an invitation to an elite fellowship which she knows she will have to decline. Wayne, her overworked husband offers little support and even less understanding of her struggle to cope.
In a moment of anguish, Nadia runs into a cupboard to escape and while having an epic meltdown involving an unbridled scream, discovers a hidden portal. The magical gateway comes with a message: WITH A WISH IN YOUR HEART, PUT YOUR HAND ON MINE. I’LL TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER WORLD, YOUR OTHER LIFE - IN ANOTHER TIME.
At first hesitant, Nadia decides to explore another world and chooses the life of a solitary artist. She exits the cupboard to what seems like her home, but while the layout is the same, the décor reflects her new style of existence. The taste of freedom of responsibility is delicious and the desperate fugitive is hooked.
Travel to and from this other world seems simple – all she needs now is opportunity. Opportunity comes in the form of her younger sister who while on summer break offers to mind her children so that Nadia can attend the fellowship classes. With her sister’s backing, our protagonist shakes off the drudgery of being just a mother and goes even further to discover another world where she finds she can enjoy the life of a successful writer, culinary artist and traveller, complete with a part time lover.
For a while she balances herself over three worlds, feeling content and fulfilled and believes she has found the answer to her unhappy life. But a chance encounter with her mother who abandoned the family 20 years ago dredges up a landfill of neglected emotions, and she is forced to face her past and future. Things start to fall apart again as Nadia’s relationship with her husband is taking strain and her complete lack of self-awareness and growing selfishness is creating cracks in all of her relationships, most critically, that of her sister.
After a few false starts, Nadia is able to get past her anger and have a meaningful conversation with her mother. Gaining useful insights, she is able to open her mind to advice from those who care about her. She realises that she has taken much for granted and that she can be happy in her original world with a change of perspective.
With a resolve to fight for her marriage and provide her children with the stable home she missed out on; Nadia visits her other worlds one last time. However, the final stopover turns into a tragedy when her ditched lover decides to try and impress her with a renovation job that includes dismantling the cupboard and her inter dimensional portal.
With only one other person she can turn to, Nadia need to allow her mother to help her find her way home.
